James Morrison’s team produced an outstanding display at the London Stadium to deservedly take all three points at the home of the pre-season title favourites to make it three wins from four matches for the Baggies, inflicting a second successive home defeat on West Ham United.
Albion’s build up play has been largely very good this season but, on this occasion, the forward players found the right balls at the right time with the same three players involved in the Baggies’ first two goals. While Felix Horn Myhre and Jimmy-Jay Morgan registered a goal and an assist each, Isaac Price played the all-important pass before the assist that was instrumental in creating the opportunities. Price should probably have registered a goal of his own when he stumbled on receiving the cut back from Morgan when the score was at 1-0, but his overall performance was excellent, as were most of his teammates.
It was a shame that the Baggies were not able to keep a clean sheet – the goal they conceded was a little unfortunate deflecting off Styles’s boot onto the inside of the post, but it does mean that Albion have now gone seven games without a clean sheet albeit they did manage to avoid conceding first for once!
The result lifts Albion into the top four and they remain four points off the top ahead of the visit of in-form Southampton on Tuesday evening. The Saints have won six of their last eight Championship fixtures and would be second in the table were it not for their four-point deduction for spying on opposition training sessions.
